Polka Little at Your Past
I was having lunch with friends yesterday and our conversation led us to talking about why we are here, our purpose in life ect. but one point that was made really stood out for me – the past only exists in our minds. The way that my friend expressed this was so perfect and I believe it adds more depth to the idea that we have control over our lives. If the past ONLY exists in our minds then we truly have power over it instead of the other way around!
Use this power to your advantage. If we are being conscious about our lives then we are better today than we were yesterday. Only allow the parts of your past access to your mind that will help you, comfort you, teach you, remind you, build you up, make you strong, keep you strong, I think you get the idea! YOU have the control over what has already happened in your life, every bit as much as you have control over RIGHT NOW and the way you use this power will create what transpires in the future.
Be aware of how you use your mind in regards to all things. My girlfriend Peggy McColl wrote a great article called “The Choice To Feel” (it’s on her mentor page at Girlfriend Mentors) and it goes hand in hand with how you choose your thoughts.
Allowing the past to influence who you are can be very ineffective for creating a life of happiness. Your past thoughts, feelings, and actions have brought you to the present. The results you have NOW were determined by YOUR past thoughts, feelings, and actions. Are you where you want to be? If you are not, then consider taking the power that you have over your mind which determines what you will feel and what you will experience and how you will ACT.
If you find yourself thinking something negative about the past – CHANGE YOUR MIND! Don’t dwell on anything from the past that does not serve your higher good. EVER. Remember, the past ONLY exists in your mind.

Schall, I enjoyed reading your post. One of the problems with people living in the past is that, by doing so, they miss out on the present and sabotage their future. This year, one of my goals is to think, live, and act in a positive way, and to find at least one thing each day for which to be thankful. From time to time I am posting about this on my blog. It’s amazing to me how much we allow our past to impact us and hold power over us. Your post was very empowering. Glad to have met you through the blog chain. — Donna
